A new study found that many large companies in Tanzania are not doing enough to disclose their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The researchers analyzed 78 sustainability reports from 2022-2024 and spoke with experts from the private sector and government, but what they found was surprising - only about 18% of these companies were meeting basic standards for climate action disclosure. This lack of transparency is a major concern because it makes it hard to track progress towards reducing emissions and achieving ambitious climate goals, such as limiting global warming to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
