A new study is looking at how quickly medicines for COVID-19 were tested after initial promising results, and whether that rush to approval made them more likely to be effective in the long run. During the pandemic, many treatments were moved straight from early testing to full-scale trials without much evidence of their effectiveness beforehand, or even a clear idea of how they might work. The researchers are trying to figure out if this fast-tracked approach led to medicines that actually worked as promised.
