New research has found that the temperature of the body, particularly in the nasal cavity, plays a significant role in how well the SARS-CoV-2 virus replicates itself. The scientists discovered that the virus thrives at 37°C (body temperature) and that this is due to a specific channel called TRPV4 that allows calcium ions to flow into cells. When this channel is blocked or inhibited, the virus's ability to replicate is significantly reduced, offering new hope for developing treatments against COVID-19.
