A new study in Northern Uganda is investigating the abuse and coping strategies of older adults, who are often vulnerable to mistreatment by their caregivers and the public. The researchers aim to understand the types of abuse these individuals face and how they deal with it. The study will involve interviewing 330 older adults in the Lira district, where there are over 19,000 people aged 60 and above, and collecting qualitative data through in-depth interviews. The researchers will use a standardized test to assess the level of abuse and analyze the data to identify factors associated with it. The study's findings will provide valuable insights into the experiences of older adults in Uganda and highlight the need for support and protection for this vulnerable population.
