New York eye patients who visit the emergency room are often not followed up on their scheduled appointments, which can lead to missed opportunities for diagnosis and treatment of other health problems. Researchers at a major hospital analyzed data from over 2,300 eye visits between 2019 and 2021 and found that about 41% of these patients failed to show up for their follow-up appointments. Despite expecting differences in follow-up rates among different racial groups, the study found no significant disparities, suggesting that other factors may be at play when it comes to showing up for scheduled care.
