A new study in Saudi Arabia has found that caregivers of people with severe persistent mental illness are facing immense challenges, including high levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. The researchers surveyed 120 caregivers from King Saud University Medical City and discovered that those who were female, lived with the patient, or had a spouse or child caring for them experienced even more burden. The study also found that the severity of the mental illness was linked to higher caregiver burden, as well as poorer quality of life. Overall, the findings highlight the need for support systems and resources for caregivers in Saudi Arabia who are struggling to cope with their loved ones' mental health issues.
