Newcomer international students in Canada often struggle with accessing healthcare due to language barriers, insurance issues, and mental health concerns. However, a recent study found that pharmacists can play a crucial role in supporting these students during their transition to the Canadian healthcare system. The research involved 23 interviews with international students at the University of Toronto, who shared their experiences navigating the complex healthcare system. The findings highlighted four key themes: feeling overwhelmed and uncertain, using self-education and community support to adapt, relying on trusted pharmacists for guidance, and advocating for changes to improve access to care.
