A new study has found that nearly six out of ten young people in Vietnam who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBTQ+) have thought about harming themselves, and one in five have actually tried to do so. The researchers also discovered that stress and anxiety are the main reasons why these individuals are at risk of suicidal thoughts and actions. Interestingly, those with higher incomes and living in rural areas were less likely to experience suicidal ideation. This study highlights the need for targeted support and prevention programs for LGBTQ+ youth in Vietnam, particularly those who struggle with mental health issues like anxiety and stress.
