New research suggests that promoting walking and cycling as a way of transportation can actually help reduce health disparities, rather than widening them. A study looked at five different programs in the UK that aimed to increase active travel, and found that these initiatives seemed to benefit people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds more than those from higher-income groups. While the results were not always clear-cut, overall they suggested that investing in active transport can be a positive step towards creating a fairer society.
