Brazil is making progress in reducing viral hepatitis, but significant gaps remain in care for vulnerable populations and underserved areas. A recent review of nationwide studies found that more than 14 million people were affected by hepatitis B and C, with varying rates of infection across different groups. For example, those in prison had the highest rate of hepatitis B, while immigrants and transgender individuals were also disproportionately affected. The review also highlighted significant disparities in treatment and prevention efforts, particularly in rural areas where access to care is often limited.
