A new study has found that companies located near popular tourist destinations in China are more likely to have better environmental practices. Researchers analyzed data from 2014 and discovered that firms close to China's top tourist attractions, known as 5A sites, were more likely to have lower operating costs and invest more in environmental facilities. This suggests that the presence of tourists can have a positive impact on the environment, and that governments may need to consider how to coordinate tourism development with industrial environmental policies to maximize these benefits.
